Research in Progress (RiP) Meeting, Molecular Modelling in Clay Science
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Clay Minerals Group (CMG) of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland for awarding me a Postgraduate Student Travel Bursary in 2024. This bursary enabled me to attend the CMG Research in Progress (RiP) Meeting & Workshop held on the 16th and 17th of May at the University of Edinburgh, UK.
This RiP Meeting focused on Molecular Modelling in Clay Minerals and was organized into two main sessions: “the creation of accurate clay models” and “applications within clay science.” The event featured two keynote speakers, Prof. Andrey Kalinichev and Prof. Chris Greenwell, who discussed advances in the ClayFF force field and the combination of experimental and simulation methods to understand wetting and swelling in clay minerals, respectively.
In this meeting, I had the privilege to present a part of my research via a poster, focusing on molecular modelling techniques in investigating phenomena in underground hydrogen storage processes, with a specific focus on the role of clay minerals, aligning with the goal of achieving net zero and facilitating energy transition. Engaging in vibrant discussions with fellow attendees, colleagues, and potential collaborators greatly enriched my experience.
